GP Practices - adjustment to services in Sandwell in response to Covid-19 July

From April 2020 to June 2020 HWS undertook a focused piece of work to establish the overall picture of the GP services on offer in Sandwell in the early phases of Covid-19 and the patients experiences of the GP services.

HWS had a role to play in response to these changes, including ensuring the public were aware and informed on services available to them. HWS have worked collaboratively with stakeholders from the outset of Covid-19 to help achieve clear information sources and provide guidance and signposting to services for the public.

From April 2020 to June 2020 HWS undertook a focused piece of work to establish the overall picture of the GP services on offer in Sandwell in the early phases of Covid-19 and the patients experiences of the GP services. This provided insight that could be helpful for informing and developing services. This report reflects the information gathered.

The report will also feed into priority project work for HWS during 2020/21. HWS, in collaboration with the Primary Care Networks in Sandwell, will be engaging with and seeking feedback from the public on using digital technology in Primary Care Services.

Experiences of People Accessing GP (Primary Care) using Digital Applications in Sandwell

One of HWS priorities for 2023/24 is to focus on engaging with under representative groups in Sandwell. Through our engagement work, we found that a big topic for discussion were the issues with accessing GP services. The use of digital applications
(apps) was raised as an area concern for conversation.

We have carried out a project that looks at the experiences of people accessing and using digital applications (apps) for GP services, and the barriers to using them. This report will focus primarily on the NHS app, also referenced is the Air mid app.

Hospital Discharge Lounge – Birmingham City Hospital

Discharge planning is co-ordinated by members of the nursing and medical team. They plan for a patient’s discharge from the time they are admitted into hospital to help ensure it goes as smoothly as possible. The Discharge Lounge is a comfortable
environment for patients who have been discharged from the ward areas by a doctor and are awaiting medication, discharge documents and transport.
The lounge offers a relaxing environment which is quieter than a ward where patients’ needs can continue to be met.
