Welcome to the Healthwatch Sandwell Annual Report.

This report highlights our work over the year, showcasing how the experiences and voices of local people have helped shape health and social care. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that patients, parents, young people, children, and all communities are listened to and that their views are represented.

From our work on SEND, Cancer services, the Wayfinder projects and dementia support, we have continued to champion the needs of Sandwell residents. 

Thank you to those who have shared their experiences with us, as well as our volunteers, staff, board members and the organisations we have worked collaboratively with. 

We are looking forward to continuing this work in the coming year.

Special Education Needs and Disability Report March 2025

In May 2023, there were over 11,259 children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Sandwell. Historically, about 1,300 children and young people had received Statements of Special Educational Need (2014). On this date, there were 3228 children or young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP/EHC Plan) in Sandwell across the 0-25 age range.

Patient Experiences of Cancer Services in and around Sandwell November 2025

In November we carried out a project looking at Cancer services in and around Sandwell. We wanted to find out what was going well and what people think need improvements. We spoke with people who had accessed cancer services in the last 18 months, this included people who were currently receiving treatment as well as those who had completed treatment and were accessing support.
