The Care Quality Commission (CQC)

The CQC check whether the following services are meeting national standards:

  • Dentists

  • Dementia/Alzheimer’s
  • Education disability services
  • Homecare agencies
  • Hospices
  • Mental health
  • Nursing homes
  • Phone/online advice
  • Prison Healthcare
  • Residential homes

The CQC check services against five national standards:

  • Treating people with respect and involving them in their care.
  • Providing care, treatment and support that meets people’s needs.
  • Caring for people safely and protecting them from harm.
  • Staffing
  • Quality and suitability of management


You can search for results of CQC checks on their website here.

NHS Choices

NHS Choices allows you to search for your local GP, dentist, pharmacy or social care (see link at bottom of page). On the website you can review information and statistics on hospitals, consultants and surgical procedures.

GPs

This section of the website allows you to search for reviews left by patients of their GP. There are also results of the 2013 National Patient Survey.

Hospitals

You can search for any hospital here and find out:

  • NHS Choices user rating
  • Care Quality Commission national standards
  • Recommended by staff
  • Responding to patient safety alerts
  • Mortality rate

Consultants

Search for a Consultant telling you where they work and their speciality. Click here for further information on Consultants, for a limited range of specialities, including their results for operations and treatments.
